Golden Feelings is the first and debut studio album by Beck. The album is characterized by how unlistenable it is, the distortion of Beck's voice in multiple songs, and the strange songs on the album. The album was originally released on cassette, and was re-released on CD in 1999 but with a very limited quantity.
The songs on the album are some of Beck's earliest, and a few would later return on other albums.
History[]
This was Beck's first release under a label, being Sonic Enemy. It was released in very limited quantities on cassette in 1993, with as little as 1000 printed initially, and shows Beck's roots in the anti-folk scene. Sonic Enemy continued to reprint copies until 1995.
In 1999, Sonic Enemy decided to remaster and re-release the album on CD, but without Beck's permission to do so. Beck was upset because of this, and after his displeasure was known, Sonic Enemy stopped printing copies of the CD. Only 2000 copies of the CD remain, causing it to become a very valuable item for Beck fans.
The album is the only major release ever by Sonic Enemy.
Promotion[]
Initially, a music video for the track Schmoozer was produced and finished, but was never released. After the video for Forcefield, which was lost until Beck reuploaded it on his site, he said he would upload the video for Schmoozer next, but has not done so yet.
A second version of the tape was given out when Beck was touring with Evel Knievel, sold at merchandise booths. After they ran out of copies, they hired a small company to print more, which in turn, caused this version of Golden Feelings to have no artwork, and it just a label with the song tracks.
